RUTHERFORD — An accident involving a firetruck sent the driver of
another vehicle to the hospital with minor injuries Monday morning,
authorities said.

Police said it appears the driver ran a stop sign at Mortimer
and Fairview avenues and hit the firetruck, which was responding to a
fire alarm at an apartment building just after 10:50 a.m.

The driver was trapped in the car, but rescuers removed him
and took him to St. Mary’s Hospital with minor injuries, said Lt. Robert
Kriston.

The extent of his injures was unclear.

No firefighters were injured. The fire alarm they were responding to turned out to be a false alarm, police said.
