There were tense moments Monday afternoon for several Virginia Beach firefighters. Around 3:15pm, their fire truck sank into a ditch in the 1300 block of Pleasant Ridge Road – just off Princess Anne Road in the Muddy Creek section of the city. Four firefighters were hurt in the accident and transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.Officials say the fire truck and an oncoming pickup truck both veered onto their respective shoulders to make room for each other to pass. The weight of the truck combined with the saturation of the ground from recent rains caused the shoulder to give way – resulting in the truck sinking further into the roadside ditch. The driver of the pickup truck was not injured. The accident remains under investigation. Officials have not said if the truck was answering a call at the time of the incident.
