UTAH FIRE DEPARTMENT LOSES MEMBER TO SUICIDE

BOUNTIFUL, Utah, Oct. 12, 2025 (Gephardt Daily) — Firefighters and their respective agencies across northern Utah are mourning the loss of one of their own.

“It is with profound sadness that we share the off duty passing of firefighter Josh Brimhall,” says a social media post issued by South Davis Metro Fire Department.

“Josh was a valued member of the South Davis Metro Fire family whose dedication, professionalism, and friendship touched many lives throughout our department and community. His loss leaves an immense void in the hearts of all who knew him.

“We extend our deepest condolences to his family, loved ones, and colleagues as we grieve together. We ask for privacy and respect for the Brimhall family and Josh’s fiancé during this difficult time.”

Word of Brimhall’s death is taking an emotional toll among fellow firefighters, including those in other departments. The Ogden City Fire Department, Layton City Fire, and Hill Air Force Base Fire and Emergency Services all expressed their condolences in social media posts Sunday, which included the familiar line known to all first responders, “Rest in peace, brother. We’ve got it from here.”

A GoFundMe account calls Brimhall “a beloved friend, firefighter, fiancé to Rhi, brother, and son.

“Josh was an incredible person who touched the lives of everyone around him. His kindness, strength, and selflessness will never be forgotten. We’re hoping to help ease the financial burden his family now faces, especially after the recent loss of Josh’s dad just a few months ago.

“Our hearts are truly numb, but we want to come together to support this amazing family through an unimaginable time. Thank you, from all of us who loved Josh.”

Services are to be announced soon, the account says. The page has a donations protected logo, but as in all cases, Gephardt Daily cannot guarantee funds raised will be used as stated. To read the page for yourself, click this link.

“Josh would always be there for anyone in need, the best way to honor him is to do exactly that and reach out for support,” the South Davis Metro Fire post says.

“The fire service is family – no one walks alone. In the days ahead, we encourage anyone who may be struggling to reach out for help.
