TODAY: Remember The Worcester 6 (The Secret List)

All,

Today, Tuesday, December 3rd (1999)  is 25 years since WFD Lt. Thomas Spencer, Lt. Timothy Jackson, Lt. James Lyons, Firefighter Paul Brotherton, Firefighter Jeremiah Lucey, and Firefighter Joseph McGuirk—died in the Line of Duty operating at what would become a five-alarm fire at the Worcester Cold Storage & Warehouse.
The fire started when a homeless couple knocked over a lit candle. Worcester Firefighters initially entered the vacant warehouse thinking the couple were still inside, and they became trapped in the sprawling brick edifice-with zero visibility. It turned out the couple had left the building.

The five-alarm fire began at 1813 hours after an off-duty Police Officer called to report gray and white smoke coming from the roof of the building. At the same time, an off-duty Firefighter from Auburn who was driving on I-290 radioed to report smoke coming from the building’s roof.

While there are volumes to speak of and write about, here are some links for you of importance that should be shared with every Firefighter, Company Officer & Chief….so that everyone who is a Firefighter today knows and understands what happened then because the conditions and potential still exist wherever buildings like that exist.
