A longtime Hackensack Firefighter died yesterday morning from cancer contracted while helping fellow firefighters at Ground Zero after the Sept. 11 attacks. Firefighter Rich Kubler, 53, died from stage 4 liver cancer he contracted from his time responding to the 9/11 attacks. Serving on the Hackensack Fire Department for more than 20 years, Kubler retired early due to his illness last fall. Although Kubler had to retire, his death will be considered a line-of-duty death. He is survived by his wife Susan, daughter Lauren, both parents and several siblings. Our condolences to all those affected. Rest In Peace.
