We regret passing on that the first Firefighter with the Los Angeles City Fire Department has died due to COVID-19. Firefighter Paramedic Jose M. Perez, 44, had been with the department for more than 16 years. He passed away yesterday, Saturday at a local hospital from complications of COVID-19.
FF-PM Perez is survived by his wife and 3 children. Our condolences to all those affected. Rest In Peace. As of Friday, 145 employees of the LA City FD have tested positive for the virus. Over 100 have since recovered and returned to duty, while the remaining employees are isolated and recovering at home. Many other fire and EMS departments across the nation are experiencing the same exposure/quarantine challenges, such as the the Petaluma (Calif) FD that has quarantined 15 Firefighters after a member tested positive last week for COVID-19…as well as Newport Beach, Alton, MO, Memphis, TN, Phoenix, AZ and numerous FD’s in Florida.
