Memphis Firefighter Damon Smith has second degree burns on his left hand and first degree burns on his face. He was trying to put out a fire at a house on Tangleberry Cove in Southeast Memphis. He was taken to the MED and we’re told his injuries weren’t life threatening, and he’s been treated and released. Investigators say the fire stated with a faulty light fixture in a bedroom and did over $100,000 worth of damage to the house.
Ann Florendo woke up Monday morning when she heard her neighbor`s fire alarm going off. She’s been the victim of a fire before so she rushed over to see if she could help.
“I learned my lesson about how fast that fire can spread so I wanted to get up here in case I could help them in any way you know to take care of the kids or the dog” said Florendo.
Florendo says a man, woman and two children live in the house and all got out ok.
“It`s amazing that there was only one hurt because those flames were high this morning,” said Florendo.
