HOSE BREAKS DURING FIRE OPERATION – INJURES FF IN TN

Fire investigators are working to determine the cause of an early morning fire today that likely destroyed a boat in the driveway of a West Knoxville home and sent one firefighter to a hospital with minor injures.

The Knoxville Fire Department responded to the call just before 7 a.m. at 4308 Royal View Road, off Palmetto Road, in the Cumberland Estates subdivision.

Firefighters found an approximately 16-foot, fiberglass boat burning on its trailer, said KFD Capt. D.J. Corcoran.

In the course of battling the flames, a firefighter was struck in the head when a fire hose came loose from a coupling in a “freak accident,” Corcoran said.

The firefighter, who was not identified, was treated for a mild concussion and released from the University of Tennessee Medical Center, he said.
