Two people, including a Firefighter, are in critical condition following an explosion and fire at a church in Boonville, New York, NE of Syracuse.
Gas leaks with subsequent explosions have become frequent for a variety of reasons….REMINDING ALL OF US… that a gas leak is an explosion that hasn’t happened yet…and our need to continuously train, respond smart, and prepare for it.

TODAY’S INCIDENT:
Firefighters were initially called to Abundant Life Church at 12644 State Route 12 at 10:23 a.m. for reports of a gas odor inside the church. A Boonville Firefighter entered the structure for the investigation when the explosion occurred just before 1100 hours. Five people were sent to Wynn Hospital in Utica for treatment. The other three people are being treated for injuries believed to be life-threatening and the church sustained catastrophic damage.
Reports indicate the church was heated by propane cylinders. However, the exact cause of the explosion remains under investigation.
