POCA, W.Va. — A Putnam County firefighter was injured Monday night after a 10-foot fall through a floor.
The Poca Community Volunteer Fire Department said the firefighter was part of a crew responding to a box alarm, and fell about 10 feet “through a comprised floor.”
The VFD said the firefighter avoided a truly severe outcome, but suffered severe bruises and will require “rest and recovery” over the coming days.
“We ask our community to keep our firefighter in your thoughts and prayers for a swift and complete recovery. We are profoundly thankful for his protection during this dangerous incident,” the VFD’s Facebook post said.
“To everyone who has already reached out with well-wishes, thoughts, and prayers — please accept our sincere thanks on behalf of our member and the entire department. Your support means the world to us during times like these,” the post concluded.
