FF INJURES ANKLE AT IN FIRE

Hilly terrain and winding roads made it challenging for Angola firefighters to battle a blaze that took four hours to bring under control Saturday morning.

Firefighters were called to 160 Lane 200 Lake Charles West at 5:21 a.m. to reports of a house fire, the Angola Fire Department said.

When firefighters got to the two-story home it was fully involved and the grass and woods around the home started to catch fire, but those flames were quickly put out, the fire department said.

No one was home at the time of the fire.

Because the fire was in a rural area, firefighters had to use tankers and portable pumps to shuttle the 35,000 gallons of water needed to fight the fire, department spokesman T.R. Hagerty said.

He said the roads in the area are narrow and hilly, which made it difficult for firefighters to get to the blaze.

It took firefighters about four hours to bring the blaze under control. They estimated the blaze caused $250,000 in damage.

A firefighter injured his ankle and was transported to Cameron Hospital, where he was treated and released, the fire department said
