We regret to pass on that a 40 year Veteran Australian Firefighter has been killed in the Line of Duty. Forest Fire Management Victoria Firefighter Bill Slade, 60, was fighting fires with Parks Victoria near Omeo when he was killed earlier today, Saturday. The married father of two from Wonthaggi has been remembered as one of the longest serving, most experienced and fittest Firefighters. He was on a taskforce working at the fire’s edge at Anglers Rest.
FF Slade had worked on major fire incidents in the past including the Ash Wednesday bushfires.
and his 40 years service was recognized in a presentation by Parks Victoria Chief Matt Jackson in November. His death follows the death of fellow FFMV fFrefighter Mat Kavanagh, 43, died on duty when his vehicle crashed on the Goulburn Valley Highway on January 3.
Our condolences to all those affected. Rest In Peace.
