We regret to pass on the Line of Duty Death of Mabank (SE of Dallas) Fire Chief Charles Woodard, who was killed while directing traffic outside the Mabank Rodeo Grounds.
Chief Woodard was directing traffic Friday night when he stepped into the westbound lanes of U.S. Highway 175 and was struck by a pickup truck. Woodard was taken to UT Health in Gun Barrel City, where he succumbed to his injuries and died in the Line of Duty. The Chief also served as a Police Officer and it’s not clear which role he was functioning in at the time of this tragedy. The driver of the pickup was not injured. Our condolences to all those affected. Rest in peace.
