MERCERSBURG- A Borough man who was “feeling funny” after using a marijuana pen bought at a gas station is facing charges of assaulting an EMT on the way to the hospital. Sean Gregory Bethel has been charged with felony aggravated assault against a designated individual. He is free on an unsecured bail of $50,000 after his arraignment on Monday.
Mercersburg PD say that MMP&W EMS was called to the home of Sean Bethel on N Main Street in Mercersburg around 9:05am on May 23rd for a sick person. When EMTs arrived, they say that Bethel came out solely in his underwear and was told in order to be taken to a medical facility he would have to get dressed. After putting on some clothes, EMTs allegedly learned that Bethel had “purchased a Marijuana pen at the Liberty Service Station and that it was causing him to feel funny,” necessitating the medical transport.
MPD say that over the course of the ride to the hospital, Bethel became combative and began to punch and kick the victim, an EMT for MMP&W. The ambulance pulled to the side of the road only about two car lengths away from where they started due to the victim radioing for help from the driver. Bethel would be subdued and restrained by more responding fire company personnel.
The victim had to be treated for bruises to her stomach, leg, and kidney.
Sean Bethel is free after being given an unsecured bail of $50,000. His next court appearance is slated for July 29th.
