THREE BUFFALO FIREFIGHTERS INJURED IN HOUSE FIRE – NEW YORK

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Two people were able to safely escape from of a burning building on Clinton Street, and three firefighters were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Video from the scene showed Buffalo Fire Department crews rescuing a man through a window on the second story of the building at Clinton and Weaver streets in Buffalo’s Kaisertown neighborhood. The man was carefully guided down a ladder to safety.

One firefighter received treatment for overheating, another sustained a wrist injury, and the other a back injury.

“It’s always a little tough. Overheating is an issue,” Meldrum said. “Until you get used to this warm weather, you go from the cold to the warm, your body has got to adjust, so it takes a little bit out of you.”

Meldrum said the building contained three apartment units and a business that operated on the first floor. He said the fire started in a rear-upper apartment.

Meldrum said the damage was estimated at $200,000 to the building and $100,000 to its contents. Fire crews were on the scene for over two hours.

“Just chasing it through all those nooks and crannies and the attic. You’ve got to just pull everything apart, piece by piece. It takes some time,” Meldrum told 2 On Your Side.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
