The Secret List www.FireFighterCloseCalls.com
We regret to pass on that 3 wildland Firefighters were killed in the Line of Duty last Sunday January 15 while fighting a fire in the commune of Vichuquén, Maule Region of Chile. An ongoing drought and variable winds led to extreme fire behavior when the accident occurred.
The Firefighters Who gave Their Lives Are:
-Firefighter Ricardo Salas, head of the Maqui 3 brigade.
-Firefighter Wilfredo Salgado, crew chief Maqui.
-Firefighter Sergio Faúndez, head of the second crew Maqui.
More details from WILDFIRE TODAY:
Our condolences to all those affected. RIP.
KEY LARGO FIREFIGHTER UPDATE
Word from Florida this afternoon is that Key Largo Firefighter Leonardo Moreno is doing significantly better, has been extubated, no longer in an induced coma but is still in Jackson Memorial Hospital and is expected to be there for several days.
The men Firefighter Moreno tried to save – 24-year-old Robert Wilson, 34-year-old Elway Gray and 49-year-old Louis O’Keefe all died underground Monday.
The men were working near Mile Marker 106 after residents complained about smells coming from a drainage manhole, according to deputies. Investigators say this was a chain reaction. Initial investigation details reveal that one worker went into the manhole and collapsed because of the gasses. A second worker went into rescue him and collapsed as well. The same thing happened to a third worker who tried to help him…and then the same thing happened to the Firefighter who tried to help them.
Some good news along with a fierce reminder to us all related to underground/confined space emergencies.
More to follow.
Take Care. Be Careful Pass It On.
