UPDATE: FIREFIGHTER INJURED IN TYLER, TX

A Tyler firefighter who was injured in the line of duty is on the road to recovery.

Scott Hilasbeck was injured Sunday while responding to a fire in the 500 block of West Selman Street in Tyler. Eight people were displaced in that fire.

Hilasbeck was admitted to the East Texas Medical Center Intensive Care Unit on Sunday after he fell from a fire truck. Fire Captain Marty Lawrence says Hilasbeck was moved to a regular room Tuesday and is slated to go home Wednesday.

Lawrence says Hilasbeck was moving on the steps of Engine 1, working with a team on the deck gun, when he fell.

About 10:18 a.m. Sunday, Tyler fire and police departments responded to heavy smoke coming from a two-story residence near the intersection of Border Avenue and Selman Street. Four engines and one ladder company, along with two district chiefs and two investigators responded to the scene, according to Fire Marshal PIO Paul Findley.
