An early morning kitchen fire ignited a row-home blaze on the 400 block of Fairview Street in Pottsville that left 17 people homeless, according to city fire Chief Todd March.
Responders included all city fire companies and firefighters from Schuylkill Haven, Minersville, Port Carbon, Mar Lin, Saint Clair, Tamaqua, Frackville and West Mahanoy Township and Pottsville EMS.
Medics treated the resident on scene for the burn on her hand. Meanwhile, a firefighter from Port Carbon was injured and taken to Schuylkill Medical Center-South Jackson Street, March said.
March identified the firefighter as Larry Dawson. He was using an inch-and-a-half hose line at the back of the properties when he slipped on the ice and the hose hit him in the face.
"He suffered an injury to his left eye, a laceration," March said.
