Fatal Resp. Crash, How We Die Video, FF Cancer LODD (The Secret List)

Hey,

A 26-year-old civilian was killed last night in a crash with responding fire apparatus in Florida. At around 2100 hours, the civilian was driving his pick-up truck in one direction while a responding fire apparatus driven by a Hernando County Firefighter/Paramedic was reportedly going in the opposite. Apparently the civilian veered his truck into the opposite lanes and collided with the front of the fire apparatus. The civilian was pronounced dead at the scene by Hernando County Fire Rescue. The Firefighter driving the apparatus and another Firefighter were transported with minor injuries.

FIREFIGHTER CLOSE CALLS’s HOW WE DIE VIDEO:

It’s been a while since we posted what we refer to as the NTS (Non Thinking Syndrome) "HOW WE DIE" videos. Now for those who don’t remember those, the videos never show Firefighters being killed-but show Firefighters how we can get ourselves killed when we don’t THINK. When we FAIL to follow standards. And when we FAIL to learn from what has killed Firefighters in the past. And in some cases, when we FAIL to follow the law.

In this case, you’ll observe "live" fire training-and you will witness a "leaf blower" being used to "fuel" the fire, which is perhaps a new dimension in incredible and unnecessary risk. THINK.

Thanks to Dave Statter for the heads up to us on this one.

ANOTHER TRAGIC LOSS FROM FIREFIGHTING CANCER

=more than 1/3 FIREFIGHTERS at the SFD. More than ONE THIRD!

While we (logistically) cannot list all job related cancer line of duty deaths from Firefighting, we do want to take a moment to express our condolences in the very sad passing of Seattle FD’s Battalion Chief Dave Jacobs, who has died from cancer. Dave was a major player in fighting for the rights of Firefighters and their families-related to cancer. Cancer is a presumptive disease for Washington State Firefighters, and more than a third of Seattle fighters hired before 1977 have developed some form of the illness. Take a moment to understand how serious this issue is for all Firefighters and what the Firefighters in Washington State did, with Dave’s help: http://www.seattlepi.com/local/412118_jacobs13.html

Our sincere condolences to all affected, especially the Seattle FF’s and Dave’s family. R.I.P.
