SNOW CAUSES COLLAPSE SERIOUSLY INJURING A WASHINGTON STATE FIREFIGHTER:

A Bothell Firefighter was seriously injured Friday when an awning, loaded with snow, collapsed on him as he operated on an EMS run. The firefighter was transported after the 1645 hours incident…and was scheduled to undergo facial surgery late last night. The Firefighter was bringing a stretcher to transport the patient when the awning came down on him.

DRUNK STRIKES FIRE APPARATUS IN CALIFORNIA:

A man was arrested for driving under the influence Christmas night after he smashed into a San Mateo fire engine. The engine had just pulled out of quarters to respond to an elevator rescue when the man struck the engine at about 2000 hours. No one was injured, but the engine was unable to carry out its response to the elevator rescue. The apparatus involved in the crash received minor damage and there is one less drunk off the road-for now.

ARIZONA FIRE APPARATUS STRUCK:

A fire apparatus operating at crash sites was struck by a rubbernecking driver Thursday afternoon. The Tohono O’odham FD rig was staged on the side of northbound I-19 when another vehicle crashed into it around 1435 hours. The driver who hit the fire apparatus was looking at the previous accident scene. No firefighters were injured, though the rig was taken out of service because of the damage it incurred.
