A volunteer rural firefighter from the small Hicks Bay Voluntary Rural Fire Force has died at the scene of a fire appliance rollover on State Highway 35 at Potaka in eastern Bay of Plenty. Another has been
airlifted in a serious condition to hospital. The Hicks Bay fire aparatus, a 1978 Bedford 4×4 was responding to a call to a motor vehicle accident north of where they went over a bank at about 1555 New Zealand Daylight Saving Time (+11 GMT).
