2 EHT squad members injured when ambulance flips – New Jersey

EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP – An Egg Harbor Township ambulance driver was charged with careless driving in connection with an accident that occurred while he was responding to a call Thursday, March 15 according to township police.

Frank Carlin, 37, of Egg Harbor Township, a member of the Egg Harbor Township Ambulance Squad, was driving an ambulance south on Fernwood Avenue at approximately 9:05 a.m. when he crossed West Jersey Avenue and hit a 2011 Ford F-150 pickup driven by Daniel Payne, 36, of Galloway Township, who was traveling west on West Jersey.

Police said Carlin was responding to an emergency call of someone who was unconscious and not breathing and had his lights and siren activated at the time.

The impact pushed both vehicles off of the road and into a wooded lot. The ambulance rolled onto its side before it came to rest, police said.

Both Carlin and his passenger and co-worker, Storm Allen, 21, of Mays Landing were treated at the scene by other squad members who responded and then were taken to AtlantiCare Mainland Campus for treatment of minor injuries.

Payne declined treatment at the scene. Traffic was detoured for about 2 and a half hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.

Carlin was issued a summons for careless driving. The incident was investigated by Officer Kevin Devlin.
