Douglas Forest Protective Association confirms one firefighter has been injured by rolling debris while fighting the Milepost 97 fire.
The firefighter was transported to the hospital, treated and released.
Rural Metro Fire and American Medical Response have deployed “Remote Rescue & Extraction” teams to the Milepost 97 Fire area. According to Rural Metro, these teams have already been involved in extracting and treating three injured wildland firefighters — including the one reported hit by a falling rock late Sunday night.
“The deployment of these two teams (basically, teams that rescue other firefighters) is necessary due to the steep and rugged terrain this fire is moving through,” the agency said. “And it’s no surprise the night shift brings an elevated risk to an already dangerous assignment.”
