Firefighters called a mayday overnight after one of their own was injured while fighting a fire in an auto body shop in Webster (near Worcester). The fire at 137 Gore Road was reported around 2200 hours. While the fire department was working to suppress the fire, one of their members was injured. At that time, Firefighters were involved in rescuing that Firefighter who made the mayday call, and a third alarm was struck to call for additional manpower.
“There was a drum that kicked out the ladder and he fell down, probably about five or six feet inside the building,” said Webster Deputy Fire Chief Chris Jolda. “He was able to be removed from the building with the crew that was with him.” The injured firefighter, who was not identified, was taken to a Worcester hospital for treatment. His injuries are not considered to be life-threatening.
