Hopefully you’ve seen the phenomenal rescue performed by the FDNY this morning at that hi-rise fire, if not check out the two video clips below.
While watching the rescue unfold, I couldn’t help but think:
-Imagine if their probie school training wasn’t what it is?
-Imagine if they didn’t train on duty?
-Imagine if they had no discipline?
-Imagine not having “tough” job focused officers?
-Imagine if their chiefs didn’t participate in regular command training?
-Imagine if they didn’t have clear policies and operating procedures and standards?
-Imagine if they didn’t do intense tools, ropes, apparatus and equipment checks?
-Imagine if their response times sucked?
-Imagine if they didn’t train & operate daily as if “someone’s” life depended on them?
Each week, be it FDNY or Rural VFD, fire departments in North America that are focused on why they are there, perform some real heroic sh!t…because they focus on those who will call for help and do all they can before the run to be as ready as they possibly can.
They do it at the department, chiefs, officers and firefighters levels – so when someone’s hanging from a hi-rise or caught in a piece of farm machinery, that kinda focus and discipline, paid or volunteer, it matters… with everyone being an expert in their expected and predictable assignments and role.
