As previously posted, a mother, young child and a Gassaway (West Virginia) volunteer Firefighter all drowned in the Elk River near Sutton Sunday afternoon following a car crash. Gassaway Firefighter John Dean Forbush died Sunday while attempting to rescue the other two victims.
The woman lost control of her vehicle at about 1430 hours in the parking lot near the Braxton County Senior Center not far from the I-79 Sutton exit, and the vehicle went into the Elk River.
Firefighters arrived on the scene and several Firefighters and Police Officers went into the river in an attempt to rescue the woman and her young daughter who were trapped in the vehicle.
The mother was recovered first. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Gassaway VFD Firefighter John Dean Forbush, 24, tried to save the child.

There was a multiple alarm fire in North Conway, NH this weekend that resulted in some very significant loss. The Red Jacket Hotel, a very popular New England resort, had jumpers and very heavy fire conditions on arrival. The below video was shot by an occupant within the building.
