It is with deep regret that we advise you that Detroit Firefighter Walt Harris Sr (his son is also on the DFD) died in the Line of Duty this morning around 0600 hours while operating as a reported vacant dwelling fire. Initial reports are that FF Harris lost his footing on the roof of the vacant house and fell through while attempting to vent….and the ensuing crushed him Rescue and related EMS attempts to save his life at the scene and at a hospital were unsuccessful. FF Harris joined the DFD in 1991….he is married, the father of 8…and his son is also a Firefighter with the Detroit FD.
More to follow on this obviously tragic loss.
