It is with deep regret that Sacramento Metro Fire Chief Bill Sponable announces the death of Fire Fighter Jim Saunders of SMFD Engine Company 101. Fire Fighter Saunders suffered injuries on October 03, 2010 while fighting a grass fire. Fire Fighter Saunders was treated on the scene by Fire Fighter/Paramedics from Metro Fire and Sacramento Fire and AMR. He was transported to Mercy San Juan for further treatment.
Unfortunately doctors determined that the injury to Fire Fighter Saunders heart was fatal. Fire Fighter Saunders was taken off of life support this morning at 0150 hours. Jim was a community servant, and his last selfless act was to make an organ donation. Jim was able to donate his liver, both kidneys and other tissue. Jim’s donation of life will benefit 3 people, it is important to express how proud Jim’s family is of him
