The Aliquippa Fire Captain is in stable condition following surgery for the injury
he suffered while operating at that fire Sunday morning. Capt. J.T. Pennington
required elbow surgery after the ladder on an aerial truck collapsed beneath
him. Captain Pennington is expected to be released from Allegheny General
Hospital in Pittsburgh later this week. The truck has been taken out of service
and will be inspected by NIOSH. The fire at Junak’s Auto Repair, 337
Franklin Ave., started in a chimney that was serving a wood stove, according to
the chief. The building, constructed in 1915 and purchased by the Junaks in
1980, according to county property records, was heavily damaged by fire and
water.
