Hey…
As of this afternoon, Riverdale (Prince Georges County, MD) Volunteer F/F Anthony Blazek has been moved out of ICU and to a regular room at the Burn Unit at Washington Hospital Center. FF Blazek will have to remain hospitalized for a period of time and will undergo skin graft surgery on Monday for burns on his face, neck and shoulders. There are no serious respiratory problems as he did have his mask on, according to Chief Ryan, of Riverdale. It is unknown when FF Blazek will be released from the hospital but he will have a lengthy recovery time. His family along with his Brother and Sister Firefighters have been by his side to support him.
FF Blazek is able to receive visitors from 1100 – 2100 daily, room number 3E-8, MedStar-Washington Hospital Center. The other injured member, FF Cory Johnson is resting at home after being released from the hospital …but will be further evaluated later this week. Thanks on behalf of the Riverdale VFD and Prince Georges County FD to all who have offered support and well wishes.

FDNY 5th ALARM WITH TENSE MOMENTS TODAY:
There were some tense moments this afternoon as FDNY companies operated at a well involved five-story building on 31st Street in Astoria (Queens) which was believed to be a cabinet factory. While operating, there was an explosion and partial collapse inside the building. Initial reports are that a large propane tank inside the building was the source of the explosion and while all of the firefighters were forced out…all members were accounted for and there were no FF injuries.
BRUNO UPDATE:
Chief Bruno (Alan Brunacini) had his 2nd knee replaced this week (part of the bionic man-plan) and is doing really well. Bruno would love to hear from those who have time to drop a line. The Chief can be reached at: [email protected]
