Georgia authorities identified the fallen Firefighter as Juan Antonio Smith, a member of Rockdale County Fire Rescue, who died in the Line of Duty following the responding crash yesterday, June 12, 2026.

Initial reports are that the Rockdale County Fire Rescue crew was responding to a reported structure fire when the crash occurred.

The tower ladder was apparently attempting to make a left turn when the vehicle overturned onto its passenger side. During the rollover, Firefighter Smith, who was riding in the rear jumpseat area of the apparatus, was ejected from the vehicle.
