OLDENHAM – The fire in the Coldenham firehouse early Tuesday caused significant damage to the building at 511 Coldenham Drive and damaged several pieces of equipment.
Five firefighters sustained smoke inhalation and minor injuries and were treated and released from area hospitals.
The fire was called in at 3:14 a.m., and members were confronted with the garage bays fully involved in fire.
Some of the apparatus was quickly removed for use in fighting the fire.
Mutual aid departments responded from across Orange County and neighboring communities.
The State Office of Fire Prevention and Control has assumed responsibility for the fire investigation, and the cause remains under investigation.
This wasn’t the first area firehouse to catch fire and heavily damage firefighting apparatus.
