State and local officials advised that FF Renfroe’s equipment will be checked for a possible failure, but new bunker gear and SCBA’s were purchased this year. FF Renfroe had been a very gung ho and active member of the Crossville FD for 2 years and indicated on his MySpace page that he wanted to make a career as a firefighter with a full-time department. Here are links:
As previously advised, FF Cody Renfroe, 24, of the Crossville (AL) VFD tragically died in the Line of Duty yesterday (Wednesday) while operating at a house fire.
More information this morning indicates that FF Renfroe, who was wearing his full PPE along with another Crossville Firefighter, both went inside the house to make the primary search-a disabled women lived in the home (who escaped prior to the arrival of the FD).
According to initial and preliminary local info, when the SCBA alarm of the other Firefighter’s pack sounded and he went out, he believed FF Renfroe was behind him. Within a period of time following that, it was determined that FF Renfroe did not come out and naturally feared that he was inside the dwelling.
Firefighters started a search and amongst that, one report states that a Crossville police officer actually climbed a ladder on the outside of the house…and could see through a window that FF Renfroe was inside. Firefighters were able get to remove FF Renfroe a short time later.
