Mainline United Airlines flights were briefly halted nationwide due to a fire alarm at a suburban Chicago facility on Thursday evening, the airline said.
The Federal Aviation Administration issued a ground stop at approximately 6:30 p.m. after a fire alarm occurred at the airline’s Network Operations Center in northwest suburban Arlington Heights. The ground stop, which affected only mainline United planes and not United Express flights, was lifted before 7:30 p.m.
United issued a statement, saying, a fire alarm at the operations center caused employees to move to a nearby backup facility and resulted in a brief nationwide groundstop.
“Employees have returned to our primary operations center, and the ground stop has been lifted,” the statement read, in part.
United posted on X that flights may be temporarily delayed due to the fire alarm.
