Two firefighters suffered injuries while battling a fire in the 6000 block of Massachusetts Avenue late Saturday afternoon, Indianapolis Fire Department officials said.
Firefighters were dispatched to the scene a little after 5 p.m. where they found heavy fire and smoke coming from a building owned by Golden Rule Automotive.
One of the firefighters injured at the scene was taken to Eskenazi Hospital for an eye injury. The other injured firefighter was checked at the scene and returned to work, according to the Indianapolis Fire Department.
There were three employees of Taller Los Amigos in the building when the fire broke out, according to the Indianapolis Fire Department. None of the employees were injured.
The employees told fire investigators that a car that was being worked on caught fire. The employees tried to extinguish it but were unsuccessful, resulting in the fire spreading to other parts of the building.
Firefighter officials said the fire was under control around 6 p.m.
