A doctor and nurse accompanying the four-week-old boy escaped injury along with the two ambulance crew.
The baby was being taken to Leeds General Infirmary from a hospital 70 miles away on the year’s coldest day when the crash happened on the M62 close to the city.
A second ambulance raced to the scene. Last night the tot was “critically ill”.
It was the THIRD crash yesterday at the same spot. Earlier, treacherous conditions on Humberside saw 31 in the space of a few hours.
Temperatures in North Yorkshire plunged to a teeth-chattering minus 8.5° C yesterday — as the Met Office said: “It could be a white Christmas.”
