THREE INJURED IN AMBULANCE ROLLOVER CRASH – MICHIGAN

ALLEGAN COUNTY, Mich. — Northbound US 131 was closed for about five hours between mile markers 61 and 64 due to a crash on Wednesday evening in Wayland.

The Allegan County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) sent out a public safety alert notifying the community to avoid the area and to detour at the Shelbyville exit (exit 59).

According to ACSO, the crash happened around 7 p.m. They said callers reported a rollover crash involving an ambulance.

13 ON YOUR SIDE sent a crew to the scene, and they found the ambulance and noted it was a Life EMS rig.

ACSO said the ambulance had been transporting a patient to Grand Rapids at the time of the crash. They said there were two EMS workers on board, one driving and one tending to the patient, when the driver of a pickup truck seemingly fell asleep behind the wheel and rear-ended the ambulance. This caused the ambulance to lose control, go off the road and land on its roof.

Both EMS workers were brought to a nearby hospital by ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries, according to ACSO, and the patient in the ambulance was transported by Aero Med with serious injuries.
