THREE GEORGIA HOUSE FIRES INJURED AT HOUSE FIRE

Three Cherokee County firefighters were hospitalized after battling a house fire in Woodstock.  A fire spokesman told WSB Radio’s Richard Sangster the family had a fire in its fireplace Sunday night, but a faulty chimney caused the home on Chestatee Court to go up in flames.

All three firefighters were transported to the hospital with second degree burns. Two were released Sunday night, while another is expected to get out of the hospital sometime Monday, a fire spokesman said.

"I know one of the firefighters had burns to his wrist, one had burns to upper extremities," Cherokee Co. fire spokesman Tim Cavender said.

All four family members were displaced by the blaze Sunday night, but they were not hurt. Investigators do not know exactly what was wrong the chimney that caused the blaze.

Firefighters said about a third of the house is destroyed.

"You need to have your fireplace checked and have it cleaned out regularly, so this doesn’t happen to you," Cavender said.
