THREE FIREFIGHTERS INJURED AT JACKSON, MISSOURI COMMERCIAL FIRE

ACKSON, Mo. (KFVS) – One business is considered a total loss after a large fire in uptown Jackson on Thursday night, June 5.

Crews were called around 8 p.m. to 119 High Street to a report of a fire at Sweetheart Florist.

According to Jackson Fire Rescue, flames and smoke could be seen coming from the business.

Because of the amount of smoke and flames showing and the structure of the building, crews from several Heartland fire departments were called in to help battle the fire.

Jackson firefighters say at least 60 firefighters from 12 Heartland departments were on the scene.

Crews from Scott City, Fruitland and Cape Girardeau are among the departments assisting with the response.

Jackson Fire Rescue Captain Michael Gentry said three firefighters were injured putting out the fire, one of them went to the hospital and was taken to a Cape Girardeau hospital for treatment and the other two firefighters were treated at the scene. We’re told the firefighter sent to the hospital has since been released.

Jackson firefighters said crews not only battled the fire from the outside but also from the inside and on the roof until the roof started collapsing.

Crews pulled back out until it was safe to reenter and on the roof.

According to Jackson Fire Rescue, crews were able to contain and stop the fire from spreading but one business sustained major damage and is considered a total loss.

Firefighters said only one other business had damage from the fire extension to the roof line, while the rest of the businesses that are connected together only had smoke damage and mild water damage.
