A little after 11 pm, a Montgomery Fire Department tanker was returning from a fire. The truck was traveling west on SH 105 just east of Walden Road. At the same time, a Montgomery County Sheriff’s Deputy was following a Volkswagen CC that was traveling east on 105 and unable to maintain a single marked lane. Just as the deputy was about to activate his emergency equipment, the vehicle veered to the left and jumped over the center median, which TXDOT installed to prevent head-on crashes. The 25-year-old female then slammed into the front of the fire truck. She was trapped in the vehicle in critical condition. A male passenger, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected onto the floorboard. Montgomery County Precinct 5 Constable Sgt. Josh Hayden was at the intersection at the time of the crash and immediately started CPR. However, the passenger was pronounced deceased on the scene. One firefighter suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was also transported to the hospital. DPS Troopers investigated the crash. SH 105 was completely closed. However, one motorist who at first was thought to be intoxicated drove into the scene, almost hitting an MCSO patrol unit head-on. After passing a field sobriety test, he was sent on his way. SH 105 reopened at 4 am. The Montgomery Coutny District Attorney’s Office Vehicular Crimes Unit also responded to the scene. DPS was assisted by MCSO and the Montgomery County Precinct 5 Constables Office.
