We regret to pass on that Dallas Fire-Rescue (Texas) Driver Engineer David Leos has died. David passed away Thursday, September 2nd, 2021 after a courageous battle with COVID-19. David had been a member with the Dallas Fire-Rescue Department since August 12th, 1981. This is a tragic loss for their department; especially for his brother, Lt. Marty Leos (EN44C), son, Lt. David Leos (EN36A), uncle, retired Assistant Chief Joe Vasquez, and those who worked directly with David at Station 41. David will always be remembered as an excellent driver and his calm, easy-going demeanor. His dedication to Dallas Fire-Rescue and the citizens we serve will never be forgotten.
A 12-year veteran of the Forest Park Fire and Emergency Services (near Atlanta) has died after battling COVID-19 for weeks. Firefighter Paramedic John Gaddy died on Thursday due to complications with the coronavirus. He was diagnosed with the virus in August.
Our condolences to all those affected. Rest In Peace.
A QUICK WORD ABOUT FIRE-RESCUE & EMS COVID-19 DEATHS
We appreciate the emails received asking various questions and providing your opinion and comments.
Here are a few answers:
Can we advise if a Fallen Firefighter or EMT had been vaccinated?
If it is public, we will share it-if it is not, we don’t inquire.
Can we stop posting Covid-19 deaths?
No. Since late 1998 when we started Firefighter Close Calls – The Secret List, we have posted and will continue to post Firefighter and EMS deaths that are or may be related to the job-and when applicable, we provide information on how to avoid repeating it.
We do support the IAFF and IAFC stance on vaccinations because, as we have since 1998, we will do whatever we can to help reduce Firefighter and EMS injury, illness and death. For us, as well proven over the last 24 years, it has never been political in the past and never will be.
