On Sunday, December 16 at about 5:42 pm Edinburg Police Officers responded to a motor vehicle crash that occurred at the 1800 block of East Monte Cristo Road in Edinburg, involving a Hidalgo County EMS ambulance and a 2011 Ford F250 truck.
EMS Medic / driver 32-year-old Felipe Huerta Jr. and patient / rear passenger 68-year-old Delia Cortines were killed when the driver of the Ford F250 drove into oncoming traffic, crashing into the ambulance head-on. The driver of the Ford F250 truck is currently in police custody and has been identified as a 34-year-old-male, who is pending criminal charges.
An additional rear passenger to the ambulance survived and has been identified as 24-year-old EMS Medic Andrea Rodriguez, who is currently in the hospital and is expected to recover.
