A paramedic who says he was brutally assaulted while on duty by a man who was stalking him over a prior “personal issue” has filed a lawsuit in Bucks County Court in Doylestown.
Scott Henley, 32, of Doylestown, is suing Daniel Inemer, 38, of Middletown. Henley is seeking a jury trial and damages in excess of $50,000.
According to the lawsuit, Henley was sitting at his desk at the Penndel-Middletown Rescue Squad on the morning of Jan. 8 when Inemer sneaked behind him and punched him in the face with a closed fist “numerous times.”
Inemer had been seen peering into windows at the squad headquarters the day before. When confronted, he said he was looking for Henley, the suit says.
“As members of the rescue squad were speaking with the defendant they reported that the defendant seemed to be looking past them into the building, had his hands in his pockets and had a crazy look about him,” the lawsuit states.
Inemer told Henley’s coworkers, according to the suit: “He knows who I am and that I am looking for him.”
After beating Henley, Inemer ran out of the building, the suit states. Henley’s attorney, John Benson, said his client remained on duty despite suffering pain from fractured facial bones.
Inemer was later arrested. He pleaded no contest earlier this month to simple assault and was placed on 18 months of probation. Court records in that case say that Inemer believed that Henley had engaged in an affair with his wife.
Inemer’s attorney, Ronald Elgart, said that he and his client had not yet seen the lawsuit and that they could not comment on it at this time.
Benson said Henley continues to suffer numbness in his face because of the attack, and has been told by doctors that the damage may be permanent.
“My client was basically hunted,” Benson said. “I can’t imagine what he has to go through on a daily basis now, knowing that he may have to deal with these issues with his face for the rest of his life.”
Benson said the public should know about the attack, since it occurred in a rescue squad while Henley was on duty.
“What if an emergency call had come in during this melee? There would have been a delay in responding. When you assault a paramedic who is on duty, you put the entire community in danger.”
