Hopefully you will be attending Fire Rescue International, the week of August 5th-look forward to seeing you there. Here are a few things we want to pass on to you related to your personal/professional agenda while in Atlanta:
======FIREFIGHTER BEHAVIORAL HEALTH:
A few months ago I had the opportunity to write a piece called “The Firefighters Emotional Close Calls” and I personally learned a whole lot. Here is the piece:https://www.firehouse.com/safety-health/article/21078908/the-emotional-close-calls
In the piece I mention something that is very different and fills a gap for today’s firefighters. It’s low cost affordable tool that Fire Chiefs can immediately use as a part of their overall firefighter behavioral health and wellness program.
======Stop by F.R.I. Booth 1941 in the Convention Center, at the Health & Wellness Pavilion. Speak with Dr. David Black and have him show you this unique solution.
======FIRE CHIEF & FIRE OFFICER SURVIVAL
FIRE DEPARTMENT POLICIES
Gordon graham and I are doing a 1.5 hour program on Thursday at 1330 hours-come by.
New or Old: Every Fire Officer’s Reality and Responsibility
Thursday, August 8, 1:30 PM – 3:00 PM Convention Center, B401
======In addition-take time to visit Gordon’s LEXIPOL booth #3340. They have a solution for the “I didn’t know that was a policy” as well as “that’s NOT a policy” and even “Chief-your POLICY isn’t even legal” Serious. Stop by F.R.I. Booth #3340 and see what I’m talking about.
======THE FIREFIGHTER CANCER ISSUE
There are numerous good folks working on improving our PPE to block as many carcinogens as realistically possible on our fireground environment. The “Red Zone” system was developed in partnership with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Technology Directorate (S&T) and the North Carolina State University Textile Protection and Comfort Center (TPACC) and it is different. Stop by Booth 605 and check it out.
======FIREFIGHTER ROADWAY SURVIVAL:
It’s no secret that the greatest chance we have of getting hurt or killed is on the roadways. There have been many ideas and proposed solutions to help minimize this risk. While at FRI stop at Whelen Engineering’s Booth 2016 to see some really unique solution related to response, on scene warning and lighting.
Also be sure to stop at Responder Safety’s Booth #2840 for free training information for your firefighter & EMS personnel.
======FIREFIGHTER SAFETY, HEALTH & SURVIVAL.
STOP BY AND VISIT:
The Safety health and Survival Section of the IAFC encourages you to stop by, learn what the section is doing and get involved. They will be at Booth 2923. The annual meeting is open to everyone and will be held on Wednesday, August 7th in Room B206.
