From fiction to fact-UL has released a new report on single family dwelling fires. Now before anyone goes insane claiming that taking out every window and attacking with a hearty 1/4″ booster line was and is the solution, open the report and look at the people involved. These are veteran firefighters and fire officers from urban and suburban fire departments. In other words, people you can trust – because they do the job like we do. People who would speak up if something was askew. The fact is that we need to read this and learn-and in some cases re-learn-specific to ventilation and fire attack because what we thought may not be.
The purpose of this latest UL study is to improve fire service knowledge of fire dynamics and the impact of their tactics through a better understanding of how suppression and ventilation are coordinated on the fireground in acquired residential structures. This project expands on previous studies led by the UL Firefighter Safety Research Institute (FSRI) that examined the impact of fire service tactics on fire behavior.

If we are truly dedicated to taking care of the public, we need to make sure that the way we take care of them – is the best, proven way to take care of them.
