A Highland Park firefighter was injured while fighting a blaze at an abandoned home Tuesday afternoon, Local 4 reported. The roof reportedly caved in just as crews made it to the top half of the home near Six Mile Road and Woodward Avenue. A 24-year-old firefighter was in the attic trying to put out hotspots when the roof crumbled. Authorities say the man collapsed and fell down a flight of stairs when he was hit with a rush of smoke and heat. The firefighter was taken to Henry Ford Hospital to be treated for injuries. There was no word on the status of his condition. Other firefighters suffered minor injuries but were not required hospital treatment. Highland Park firefighters told Local 4 that a lack of manpower is putting them into dangerous situations.
