A one-vehicle crash at Loop Road and Charger Highway critically injured an area firefighter on Saturday.
Geeseytown
firefighter Corbin Molinets, 19, was stabilized at Altoona Regional,
then flown to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh where he has been
supported by a ventilator to prepare him for surgeries, Assistant
Phoenix Volunteer Fire Company Chief Allen Rhine said on Sunday.
As of Sunday night, UPMC hospital administrators said Molinets is in critical condition.
Molinets’ vehicle broke through a road barrier and slid down the side of an embankment.
Phoenix
company firefighters in Hollidaysburg were dispatched at 6:40 p.m.
Saturday and within 19 minutes had stabilized the car containing
Molinets on the side of the embankment where it crashed, cut off its
roof and passenger door and rolled up the dashboard to release Molinets’
legs, which were bent underneath it.
Rhine said Hollidaysburg
Borough police are investigating the crash, but he believes Molinets
lost control of his vehicle because he swerved to not hit an animal.
Geeseytown
Community Fire Company Chief Dennis Walls said when Molinets returns to
Blair County from Pittsburgh, he will have to complete a period of
rehabilitation prior to returning to his home.
