A multi alarm commercial fire in Floral Park, Long Island, NY resulted in a crash of the first due tower ladder. Per the County Fire Coordinator/County Fire Marshal Chief Mike Uttaro, the fire at 266 Jericho Turnpike in the Village of Floral Park, was a well involved fire equivalent to a 4th alarm. There were 17 fire departments with approximately 120 volunteer firefighters on scene. Firefighting efforts have transitioned to defensive operations only due to deteriorating conditions of the building.
Currently, there are reportedly four (4) firefighter injuries with two (2) that have been transported to the hospital for further evaluation. Additionally, there are two (2) firefighter injuries relating to a crash that Floral Park Tower Ladder 1-2-3 was involved in while responding to the scene; one of these firefighters was transported to the hospital for further evaluation. This brings the total injuries relating to the fire to six at this time.
