RESPONDING CHIEF OFFICER INVOLVED IN ARKANSAS CRASH

FORT SMITH, Ark. — The Fort Smith Fire Department confirmed an emergency vehicle was damaged in a collision at the intersection of Rogers Avenue and Free Ferry Road at around 12:15 p.m. on Wednesday when it was on its way to a structure fire call.

Assistant Fire Chief Darrell Clark said one of his shift commanders was the vehicle’s only occupant when the crash happened. He said the shift commander and the driver of the other vehicle had minor injuries. The impact set off the airbag in the emergency vehicle, so the shift commander is now getting his wrists checked.

After today’s crash, the Fort Smith Fire Department now has two vehicles out of commission. Clark said one of the department’s pick-up trucks was rear-ended last week.
