Authorities said that a first responder was seriously hurt in a Tuesday fire that also destroyed their Perry County home.
The fire broke out around 2:30 p.m. and quickly went to a second alarm on the 100 block of Pine Hill Road in Spring Township, according to dispatch logs and the Landisburg Volunteer Fire Department.
According to fire officials, the home was engulfed in flames and ultimately destroyed.
Fire officials said one of the home’s residents was airlifted to Lehigh Valley Hospital for burns and smoke inhalation. The resident is a first responder with Landisburg EMS. Their condition as of Wednesday is unknown.
“While we respond to every call as if we’re responding to family, this time we truly were,” Landisburg EMS wrote on Facebook Tuesday evening. “As one would imagine, this is our worst nightmare and the reason why we strive to answer every call with courage, grace, tenacity & humility.”
Landisburg EMS created an online fundraiser to help the family financially recover. Landisburg’s fire department is also holding a 50/50 raffle for the family.
